#15 What does 寝る mean? ~ Japanese people sleep so little!?~

2018. 12. 30

Hello everyone!

How are you?

Thank you so much for coming here.

It's kÜshi.

🔴I help you study kanji and Japanese
by making example sentences with
kanji.

And then I explain the grammars and
all the kanji which are used in the
sentences

🔴I realized that I should make useful
sentences so that you can learn kanii
with very natural Japanese which we
usually use, not formal ones.

🔴The method to study here.

I always make very natural sentences,
so they are sometimes difficult to
understand.

But don't worry. I explain everything in
detail.

So this is one of the best methods to
study here.

1. Copy the sentences on paper
carefully.

2. Read aloud the sentence while
looking it.

3. Read the explanations.

I hope this helps you a lot!!

How to write 寝👇

寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝寝

Example sentence:

・ Ordinary students sleep for around 7 hours on the average.

... 普通 の 学生 は 平均 で 約 7時間 寝る。

/futsuu no gaku-sei wa hei-kin de yaku nana-ji-kan ne-ru/

f:id:oyenkushi:20181230202524j:plain

It's said that Japanese people sleep much shorter than the world average.

Elementary school students' average of sleeping time is around 8 hours and a half.

And junior high school students' is around 7 hours.

Even kids sleep for such short time.

High school students and adults sleep much shorter.

By the way, I'm 14 and I usually sleep about 7 hours.

But recently I'm on winter vacation so I sleep longer, about 9.

I was surprised to see that people in other countries sleep for 8 ,9, and longer than that.

So why Japanese people sleep so little?

That's because of our old thinking about sleeping.

We believe that studying and working hard without sleeping is industrious.

So we've killed our sleeping time and now we don't feel like sleeping so much.

Of course, we like sleeping, but we like staying up late at night, too.

We want to play a game, to watch YouTube, to listen to music, to talk with our friends, so we want to stay up late at night!!

AND Japanese people don't hesitate to do that because of that thinking from old.

That's because why Japanese people don't sleep so much.

So keep in mind, we often stay up, but we seldom study. That's a very bad practice of Japanese people.

So I explain about the grammars used in the sentence, finally.

Sorry to have talked about sleeping so long if you just wanted to practice grammars.

👉普通の(futsuu no)

This means ordinary.

The word "ordinary" is very proper to mean "普通の"

👉学生(gaku-sei)

This means students in junior high schools, high schools, and universities.

Children in elementary school aren't called "学生", but 子ども(ko-domo).

学 means "to study" or "to learn"

生 means "to live"

So 学生 means like "a person who lives while studying"

So students have to study!! Ok, students in the world?? Kanji says so.

So 普通の学生 means "ordinary students"

👉平均で(hei-kin de)

平均 means an average.

So 平均で means on the average.

👉約(yaku)

This means "about"

👉7時間(nana-ji-kan)

7 reads "nana"

And 時間(ji-kan) means "for ~hours"

So 7時間 means "for 7 hours"

That's simple though 時間 is confusing to write XD

So 約7時間 means " for about 7 hours"

That's very easy!!

👉寝る(ne-ru)

This means "to sleep"

That's all explanations!

Now you can translate the sentence!

普通の学生は平均で約7時間寝る, this means

Ordinary students sleep for about 7 hours.

So that's all today.

Thank you so much for reading!!

Ask me if you have any questions.

I hope this helps you a lot!
