・When you ride in a taxi, the door opens automatically.

...タクシー に 乗る とき、ドア は 自動 で 開く

/takushī ni no-ru toki, doa wa ji-dou de a-ku/

I've heard that people from foreign countries are always surprised to see the taxi doors open automatically.

So it may sometimes injure you if you don't know about that.

The doors will open just by approaching them, so pay attention when you can find taxis around you.

So I explain about the grammar used in the sentence.

👉タクシー(takshī)

This word is made from, you know, "taxi"

So it's written with katakana.

👉に 乗る(に のる, ni no-ru)

This means "to ride in/on something"

・馬に乗る…to ride on a horse
→馬(uma) means a horse

・バスに乗る…to ride on a bus
→バス(bas) means a bus

So タクシーに乗る means "to ride in a taxi"

This means "when ~ ,"

For example,

・たべるとき(taberu toki)...when I eat
→たべる means to eat

・ねるとき(neru toki)...when I sleep
→ねる means to sleep

So タクシーに乗るとき, this means "When I ride in a taxi"

👉ドア(doa)

This means "door"

This word is made from "door", so it's written with katakana.

👉自動で(ji-dou de)

This means "automatically"

自, this kanji means "by itself"

動, this kanji means "to move"

👉開く(a-ku)

This means "to open"

So 自動で開く, this means "to open automatically"

Simple!
